I am not one to brag, but I do get excited when I call something, even if it was apparently obvious to lots of people, not just me. Anyhoo, I posited that Sammy’s visions were Lucifer, not God, a couple of weeks ago, here, in my Sheriff Donna recap.
Of course it was Lucifer. Of course! And I would like to reiterate my intense opinion that we never, ever, EVER see God on Supernatural. It is one of those things that I never want to see, like never seeing Maris Crane or Bob Sacamano. I am adamantly against the WInchesters ever meeting God on this show!
Unless the writers come up with a really, really good idea, and then maybe I would possibly be okay with it.
But I am pretty sure meeting God would be a dealbreaker for me.
I think.
Does it feel like someone has been in therapy on this show? I’m a fan of therapy, and I think maybe someone has been in therapy.
Doe it feel like someone has been doing a Supernatural rewatch? I am a fan of rewatches, and this season of Supernatural feels like someone has been sifting through the first five seasons of Supernatural.
This is all good news, in my opinion. Season 11 feel like a reboot in some ways, with those beautiful boys fighting monsters instead of each other. The sledgehammers falling left and right about saving people, and making Sam be Sam, and Dean be Dean. It is loads of fun so far.
These two episodes work really well back to back. I watched them together before writing this, to capture the full scope of what was going on. While Amara has been burning all season, everything changed as soon as Lucifer joined the fray.
Just when you thought The Darkness, aka Amara, was gonna shimmy her way through the season, threatening destruction and entrancing Dean with her lovliness, Lucifer makes his big entrance. Mark Pelligrino did such a good job playing Lucifer way back in the day, that the moment we see him I am filled with glee. A petulant, spoiled angel who loves to play with his toys, until they don’t wanna play back. His cool charm takes a sudden and violent turn when Sammy doesn’t fall for his tricks, and a beleagured and broken Castiel decides to give himself up in hopes of being the hero. Amara is brutal and pissed at her brother, God with a capital G, and while she has power over Dean, a power that is greatly upsetting to a DeanGirl like me, she may have made a fatal mistake by driving Castiel into the arms of Lucy. Misha Collins grabbed this challenge and ran with it. His impersonation of Lucifer is spot on, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next. Although I am very worried about the sweetest little angel once this is all over.
I love how Crowley has had a hand in all of this. And then add in the Lucifer fangirl, Rowena, and a rollicking good time is had by the audience. Rowena has been an excellent foil for Crowley these past couple of seasons, given us some of his edge back, which was needed, and then with the addition of yet another clever little weapon, the witch-catcher, Rowena is sent packing. Justly dispatched by Lucy himself, and boom, Crowley has a new problem to deal with. Excellent.
Sam & Dean
Sam is an optimist, isn’t he? He has a long history of making decisions with the idea that his actions will make everything better (willing to jump in the cage; willing to die to close the gates of hell; et.al.). It’s sweet and good, and one of the reasons we love Sam. How else could he not see that his visions weren’t God, but Lucifer? And while Lucy made a pretty good case as to why Sam should say “yes” to let him ride around in his vessel, pointing out that Sam had lost his way, had become consumed with saving the people he loves instead of making the big play, Sammy saw through the ruse, and insisted on saying “no”. Even when Sam makes a mistake, he still recovers like a boss.
Dean, busy dealing with the power of Amara, the upsetting, overwhelming power she has over him, completely misses the fact that his little brother is down in the cage, being wooed by Lucifer. Cas comes to the rescue, stopping Dean from going further into the Smite Zone and turning into a pillar of salt, and getting him down in the pit to help Crowley with Rowena with Lucy. I can only think that Dean hopes that Amara has been successfully smote, but he rushes to help Sam, because that’s what Dean does. And he does it pretty well, and once Cas shows up at the cage, Lucy snaps them into the arena, and it is suddenly three against one. It’s not much of a match, really, Lucifer kicking the three of them all over the cage, until Rowena’s spell goes into effect, and Whoosh, Lucifer is gone.
Or is he?
Castiel
The sweetest little angel has had a rough go of it these past few episodes. Hell, he’s had a rough go of it the past few seasons! Beaten, be-spelled, his Heavenly friends turned on him, bad decision after bad decision, he is ripe for Amara’s nastiness. Not only does she carve a message in his chest, but she tells him he isn’t even worthy of her wrath, which hits him pretty hard. So, when Lucy has beaten down the only people Cas still has in his corner, and he about to kill Dean, Castiel jumps to the rescue, and in a moment of desperation and misery, says Yes to his satanic brother, and Lucifer takes over Cas’ vessel in a blinding white light. Yikes.
Sam and Dean are gonna be pissed.
Quotes! (Ep.10)
Crowely: “Oh yes, all he needed was the love of a horrible woman.”
Crowley (voicemail): “Thank you for calling Crowley, King of Hell. For demon deals, press 1. To report a sighting of that ginger whore, Rowena, press 2.”
Crowely: “Welcome to Hell.” Dean: “Where’s Sam?” Crowley: “Don’t worry about Sam.” Dan: “I’m sorry, have you met me?”
Amara: “My brother always did have horrible taste in men.”
Lucifer: “Okay, you don’t like me. I get it, I get it, sometime I don’t like me either. But Gabriel and Raphael are dead, God, went out for a pack of smokes and never came back, and Michael? Well, let’s just say prison life hasn’t really agreed with Michael. These day he’s usually sitting in a corner singing show tunes and touching himself.”
Lucifer: “Scared?” Dean: “Not even a little.”
Crowley: ‘This has been a horrible trainwreck. Team up, over.”
This is the awesome trailer for the second half of season 11. It is awesome. For realz.

When this season started, I had no idea that Lucifer would be back in the mix. This is very exciting, and has risen the stakes to a new level. I love it! Once again, good job, show. To be able to elicit this level of excitement after eleven seasons is kind of a miracle.
