I love how the powers that be have been giving us so much Sam and Dean this season. I mean, just two brothers driving around and helping people. No secret keeping, or lying, or packing a bag and going, but those beautiful boys riding around in Baby, talking about things, and running into burning buildings.
This episode was no different, and it gave us yet another glimpse into the boys’ childhood. A world where Sammy was so sad and alone that he needed Sully to keep him company. Dean’s reaction to meeting Sully, to seeing the Sparkle carnage, and his dubiousness regarding Weems was classic Dean, and helped to balance out the actual serious bits that Sam was dealing with.
How does the pain of childhood translate into how we react to the world around us? Look how far Sam has come, watching the change in his demeanor when he realized that he hadn’t ran away in a long while. The insistence to Dean that he was going to have to deal with Lucifer and that damn cage sooner or later.
I liked it, and on top of it all, we got a vision of the hottest trauma counselors ever. Even those Mr. Roger’s sweaters can’t calm the heat that is coming off of those boys.
QUOTES!
Dean: “Are you having a stroke? Do you smell toast?”
Sam: “Wait, so even his blood is glittery?” Sully: “Even in death, Sparkle can’t help but shine.”
Weems: “My fat saved me, can you believe that?” Sully: “Fat is awesome.”
So, good job RIchard Speight, Jr. Very Supernatural-y all around.
Next! Lucifer, and the cage, and Amara, and other potentially horrible things. Mid-season, winter finale!!!
