The gap between seasons can seem endless for fans of BBC America’s Orphan Black, so here are some logs to keep the fire burning through the winter.
- The Canadian clone drama was named Best Television Series – Drama at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards Gala Saturday, Oct. 25, in Toronto. Co-creator John Fawcett received the award for Best Direction – Television Series for the Season 1 finale: “Endless Forms Most Beautiful.”
- MediaDailyNews reported Friday, Oct. 24, that ”AMC Networks will spend $200 million to acquire a 49.9% equity stake in the cable channel BBC America from BBC Worldwide.”
The story said AMC will take operational control of BBC America, which it will manage as a stand-alone channel. AMC Networks include AMC, IFC, WE tv and SundanceTV.
- In the spirit of Halloween, the Orphan Black website has posted a batch of photos titled “Helena’s Gallery of Horrors,” with shots of everyone’s favorite homicidal clone “looking ‘bat-shit crazy.’”
- This month’s Scottsdale International Film Festival screened Tatiana Maslany’s 2013 movie Cas & Dylan. Maslany stars with Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfuss in the Canadian road picture directed by Jason Priestly. Fans of Orphan Black will recognize her character as a lighter version of Sarah, with a dash of Helena at mealtime. Since this is the TV Tryant blog – not the Movie Tyrant, here is a link to my review.
Season 3 of Orphan Black is scheduled for Spring 2015.
