In a blatant attempt to distract y’all from the fact that I have not recapped SPN for the past two episodes, mainly out of general laziness, I have decided to write up a little ta-dah on the upcoming SPN spin-off Tribes. *sigh*
I am doing my best to keep an open mind, and as usual, the CW has done a nice job of casting hotties to drool over – Lucien Laviscount of Episodes and Nathaniel Buzolic of The Vampire Diaries – I just am feeling verra verra lukewarm about the whole thing. I mean, here is the description (as seen on EW.com):
Executive produced by Supernatural‘s Eric Kripke, Jeremy Carver, Robert Singer and written by Andrew Dabb, Tribes is a sweeping drama about the various mafia-esque monster families that run the underbelly of Chicago, unbeknownst to the humans. They are threatened when one human, newly-minted hunter Ennis, decides to rid the city of all things supernatural.
Mafia-esque monster families??? REALLY? In Chicago, of course. **sigh**
You know how much I love those wonderful Winchesters. I adore the damn show, but the news of a spin-off was completely unwelcome in this fans heart. Maybe it is the ghosts of poorly done spin-offs past such as Joey (without his Friends), The Brady Brides (Jan: “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!”), The Lone Gunman (Uuugh) and of course, The Golden Palace (beating The Golden Girls horse quite to death). But then again, what would my TV world have been like without such delights as The Jeffersons, Star Trek: Next Generation, Laverne & Shirley, Angel, or Frasier?
I wish the SPN crew all the best, and we will find out if this idea has any legs at all on the 20th episode of Supernatural, set for April 29th, which is a backdoor pilot for Tribes, as done last year with TVD spin-off The Originals (which I have not watched at all since the first episode this season, because *YAWN*).
In the meantime, a little shot from the good ol’ days. 🙂
